Pina Colada Smoothie (Protein Shake)

Here is a piña colada protein smoothie which still tastes like your favourite beach and summer beverage.

Imagine coming out of a gym session and downing one of these!

Alternatively, if you do not want to add any protein powder, you can just make a virgin piña colada by using this recipe which is refreshing and hydrating.

How to make a piña colada protein shake?

You can use this recipe to make a virgin piña colada or a protein shake. Or just add rum!*

1) Main ingredients

Pineapple Chunks: Either use fresh or frozen. The smoothie will taste much better by using frozen fruit which also means you do not need to add ice.

Banana Chunks: This is optional but the banana is a lovely addition to this smoothie because it combines well with pineapple and coconut milk. Again, it will come out better frozen and I chopped up just one banana.

Coconut Milk: I love the alpro coconut milk and I always use this for smoothies and shakes. It is macro-friendly too!

Vanilla Protein Powder: Use either whey or casein protein powder but ensure it is vanilla for the best taste. I only add half a scoop because I still want this to taste like a piña colada! However, adding a scoop is fine and will be higher in protein.

*Rum: For the record, do not add rum to your protein shake! However, if you want to make this a alcoholic beverage then using the above ingredients (aside from the protein powder) with rum will taste like a refreshing piña colada.

2) Method

  1. Add all the ingredients to a high speed blender
  2. Blend for 30 seconds
  3. Serve immediately

Why you will love this smoothie?

Refreshing: By using frozen pineapple and banana chunks will make this smoothie seriously refreshing. You can also prep these to save time making this smoothie.

Virgin Piña Colada: Drinking a piña colada reminds me of the good times on the beach and I love drinking this in hot weather. However, you can still enjoy drinking this regularly without any alcohol and even add protein powder to turn it into a protein shake. It still tastes the same!
